The Philippines is a Southeast Asian country that is on the Pacific Ring of Fire. It might be a small country, but it has a long history of occupancy, from the Spanish era to the period of American influence. Named after the Spanish King Philip II, the Philippines was under a Spanish ruling for over a three centuries. The Spanish influence is still very present today as many names such as streets, cities, villages, etc. are of Spanish descent. The culture is also very influenced by the Spanish ruling, specially with the catholic religion that had a immense power at the time and still has a significant impact today, and many tradition that are still practiced today come from Spain.
